Fund-raising solo cyclist arrives in S'pore

By Sean Au

One woman has braved cycling solo on the roads for two weeks, from Thailand to Singapore, to raise funds for charity.

Combining the passion for cycling with the desire to help the less fortunate, Wendy Chan undertook the 2,000 kilometre journey from Bangkok to Singapore.

Her goal was to raise some S$10,000 for the Singapore Breast Cancer Foundation.

The 2-week journey ended on Saturday, with her supporters welcoming her at the Causeway and riding alongside her on the home stretch.

The solo ride has not been without its challenging yet rewarding moments.

Wendy recounted, "Apart from being chased by dogs, I guess I really was very lucky to see the better side of people. Nothing bad actually happened. So I've been really lucky these 2 weeks. I'm glad to be back but at the same time, I wish it would go on a while more. I would not hesitate to do it again."

Although the final tally is still being worked out, Wendy is confident the fund-raising target of S$10,000 will be reached.

But the ever optimistic fundraiser said contributions are still welcomed.
